  5. What is an SIC code?
Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes are four digit numerical codes assigned by the U.S. government to identify the primary business of the establishment. The SIC code is a numerical representation to identify industry classifications. The first two digits identify the major industry segment (such as SIC code 73, Business Services) and the last two digits represent a company's specialty within the broader segment (such as SIC code 7331 Direct Mail Advertising Services)

  6. How do I read an SIC code?
The first two digits represent the major industry group, the next two digits further define the listing into a subcategory. The 6 and 8 digits categories are created by business list compilers (or other entities) using their own respective systems. The additional numbers allow for further targeting and classification. Generally, the more numbers in an SIC code, the more detailed the classification.

  7. What does NEC stand for in the SIC code listings?
NEC, Not Elsewhere Classified. SIC codes with the digit 9 in the latter part of the code distinguish an NEC category. When a business can be identified as part of a larger industry segment, but there is not enough information to place the business into an established subgroup, the business will be categorized into an appropriate NEC grouping. These categories designate miscellaneous industries not elsewhere classified (NEC). These miscellaneous classifications are not necessarily comprised of uniform establishments. Businesses are grouped together and treated as a separate industry code so that other establishments may be grouped accordingly into smaller subgroups.

  8. What is an NAICS code?
North American Industry Classification System uses up to a 6 digit classification based on if the establishment deals with Goods or Services. NAICS is a categorization of kinds of business activity. It consists of codes developed by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to identify the kind of business activity a business is engaged in.

Click the "Get Count" button again to see your revised company and contact counts. You are able to order all records in your count, and the contacts will be appended on each record where available.
